HoopRank ("we," "us," or "our") operates the HoopRank mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the App. By using the App, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account or sign in through a third-party authentication provider (Apple, Google), we may collect:

• Email address
• Display name
• Profile photo URL
• Unique user identifier (Firebase UID)

1.2 Profile Information

You may voluntarily provide additional information, including:

• Playing position (e.g., Point Guard, Center)
• Height and weight
• City
• Profile biography

1.3 User-Generated Content

We collect content you create within the App, including:

• Match results and game scores
• Player ratings and rankings (HoopRank ELO score)
• Status posts, comments, and likes
• Court check-ins and follows
• Team memberships
• Challenge invitations and messages
• Uploaded images

1.4 Location Information

With your permission, we collect your device's approximate location to:

• Show nearby basketball courts on the map
• Facilitate court check-ins
• Display local player rankings

Location data is used for proximity-based queries (e.g., courts within a radius) and is not continuously tracked or stored beyond what is necessary for these features. You may disable location services at any time through your device settings, though some features may be limited.

1.5 Device and Usage Information

We may automatically collect:

• Device type and operating system
• Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token for push notifications
• App usage patterns and interaction data
• Crash reports and diagnostic information

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the App
• Authenticate your identity and manage your account
• Calculate and display player rankings and statistics
• Enable social features (follows, challenges, teams, messaging)
• Show nearby courts and local activity
• Send push notifications (match updates, challenges, new followers, etc.)
• Improve the App's features and user experience
• Respond to your requests and support inquiries
• Enforce our Terms & Conditions and prevent misuse

3. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

• Public Profile: Your display name, profile photo, player statistics, rankings, and court activity are visible to other HoopRank users as part of the App's social features.
• Service Providers: We use third-party services to operate the App (see Section 5). These providers only access your data as necessary to perform services on our behalf.
• Legal Compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
• Safety: We may disclose information to protect the rights, safety, or property of HoopRank, our users, or the public.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 7). Upon account deletion, we will remove your personal data from our active databases within 30 days. Some data may be retained in backups for a limited period for legal or operational purposes.

5. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

• Firebase Authentication (Google LLC) — for secure sign-in via Apple and Google
• Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google LLC) — for push notifications
• Firebase Hosting (Google LLC) — for hosting web content
• Google Maps / Places API (Google LLC) — for court location data
• Railway (Railway Corp) — for backend infrastructure hosting

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these third-party services.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

• HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit
• Firebase Authentication with token-based session management
• Secure database access controls

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and personal data
• Portability: Request a machine-readable copy of your data
• Opt-Out: Disable push notifications via device settings; revoke location permissions at any time

7.1 California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to: (a) know what personal information we collect and how it is used; (b) request deletion of your personal information; (c) opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal information); and (d) not be discriminated against for exercising your CCPA rights.

7.2 European Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, our legal basis for processing your personal data includes: (a) your consent; (b) performance of a contract (providing the App); and (c) our legitimate interests in operating and improving the App. You have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at support@hooprank.app.

9. Push Notifications

We use Firebase Cloud Messaging to send push notifications for events such as match updates, new challenges, followers, and team invitations. You can opt out of push notifications at any time through your device's notification settings. Opting out will not affect your ability to use the App.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App and updating the "Effective Date" above. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
